There are local markets and fairs and throughout the summer months, music festivals, folk evenings, concerts, competitions and theme days in the pretty surrounding villages; guided tours of porcelain factories; the sampling of local liquers at distilleries.
Limoges (40 minutes) has so much history having been destroyed and rebuilt 5 times since the Roman Emperor Augustus founded it in 16 BC so why not take Le Petit Train Touristique and discover what a beautiful and suprisingly diverse place it has become.
St Junien (25 minutes) is a town specialising in leather gloves and goods.
Chateau de Rochechouart (15 minutes) visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, also its' collection of 16th century frescoes.
Over the last weekend in July, Oradour-Sur-Vayres celebrates for 4 days with a fun-fair, various competitions and attractions, bands, a parade of flower decorated floats and ends with a really terrific fireworks display on the last night.
An enjoyable experience!!
